Variable Data Printing

A large commercial size digital printer with paper rolling through

Variable Data Printing (VDP) is a form of digital printing, including on-demand printing, in which elements such as text, graphics, and images may be changed from one printed piece to the next without hindering the printing process, and using information from a database or external file.

For example, a set of personalized letters, each with the same basic layout, can be printed with a different name and address on each letter.

This process has increased efficiency, volumes, and reduced costs. With the business model Print-to-Post, data files are prepared, than sent to the digital printers. Once printed, the materials move to the mail inserters and sorter, then dispatched to the USPSĀ® General Mail Facility.
